Swiss Ival AG to construct plant on insulin production in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ival AG (Switzerland) started construction of large pharmaceutical plant in Bostanlik district of Tashkent region. The plant will be only insulin producer in Uzbekistan.

The capacity of the plant will make up 500,000 pills, 10 million doses of insulin and 100 million doses of infusion solutions. Total volume of foreign investments to the project made up US$150 million. Total area of the plant will make up over 20 hectares. The plant will be commissioned at the end of 2014.

The plant will create antibiotics, vitamins and other medicaments. It is planned that the raw materials will be imported in the first stage. The plant will start to work in full circle in 2015.

Ival AG director-general Ernst Hartmut said that the medicaments will be produced based on high demand for quality. He added that the part of products will be exported.

According to the Healthcare Ministry of Uzbekistan, currently there are 118,000 people with diabetes in Uzbekistan. Majority of them are sick with insulin independent diabetes. The government provides insulin for free. Currently, Uzbekistan fully imports insulin. The plant will meet demand of Uzbekistan to insulin.

The programme on priorities of development of industry for 2011-2015 has one more project on production of insulin, injection solutions and other medicaments in Tashkent region. Diecon GmbH (Germany) will finance the project. The capacity of the plant makes up 25 million insulin doses in cartridges. The project will be implemented in 2011-2015.

According to the Main department of control over medicaments under the Health Ministry, Uzbekistan registered 5,808 medicaments as of the end of 2010. Some 2,994 medicaments are produced in foreign countries, 1,877 in the CIS states. Uzbekistan produces 873 medicaments and 63 solutions, 369 in vitro, 23 in vivo and 1,421 medical products.
