Sumy Frunze NPO PJSC to construct booster station at Navoi thermal power station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Sumy Frunze NPO PJSC (Ukraine) signed a contract with Uzbekenergo state joint stock company for construction of booster station within the commissioning new capacities at the Navoi thermal power station (Uzbekistan).

For equipment of booster station, the Ukrainian company will produce two gascompressor units with electric drive and total capacity of 16 megawatt, as well as necessary general station equipment. The booster station will supply fuel gas to combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 478 megawatt, which is constructed within the project on expansion of the capacities of Navoi thermal power station.

As reported earlier, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (Japan) supplied combined-cycle plant with the cost of US$350 million for modernization of Navoi thermal power station. The construction of combined-cycle plant will be completed in the end of 2012.

Vladimir Borovik, head of sales department of Sumy Frunze NPO PJSC, said that the order term is short. The Ukrainian firm should deliver equipment in spring 2012, so the customer could complete all works on equipment of the station. According to the agreement, the Ukrainian company will also carry out assembling and commissioning works of the booster station.

Alexei Tsymbal, director-general of Sumy Frunze NPO PJSC, said that the company significantly boosted cooperation with Uzbekistan. The company produced equipment for equipment of Urga field, construction of new capacities at Mubarek gas processing plant and spare parts for the plant.

He said that this is the first order of the Ukrainian company in energy industry of Uzbekistan. “We hope that our joint work with the Uzbek energy companies will be successful as in oil and gas sector, with which we are cooperating for several years,” he said.

In August 2009, Uzbekenergo signed an agreement with the consortium of Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (Turkey) and Initec (Spain) to modernization of the station with the cost of US$468 million.

Within the contract, the consortium will construct combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 478 megawatt under “turnkey”. The consortium signed agreement with Mitsubishi in 2009.

The project will be financed due to the resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan for US$351 million, own resources of Uzbekenergo – US$70.2 million and loans of the Uzbek banks – US$46.8 million.

Modernization of Navoi thermoelectric power station will provide electricity to Navoi free industrial and economic zone.

Navoi thermoelectric power station was built in 1963 for energy supply of Kyzylkum region. It is one of the largest power stations in Central Asia. Its capacity is equal to 1,250 megawatt.
