A sub-regional training course on statistics for MDG indicators for the countries in transition in Central Asia and Caucuses kicked off in Tehran on Saturday.

The two-week training course is jointly organized by the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) and the Statistics Center of Iran.

Some 13 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran are attending the course, IRNA reported.

The course is to build data, statistical capability in countries, promote and generate quality and reliable data to monitor the progress in MDG and contribute to accurate national MDG reports.

The sub-regional training course is to be concluded on 2 May.
