Strengthening cooperation with foreign states discussed with former ITU Secretary-General

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov met with Hamadoun Touré, the former Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

During the conversation, Touré noted Uzbekistan’s achievements in digital technologies over the past few years and praised the country’s efforts to implement advanced technologies on a global scale.

He characterized the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years as a historic turning point and highlighted that the country’s successes in digital transformation are a result of effective governance.

Additionally, he recognized Uzbekistan’s accomplishments in expanding its activities in international organizations, particularly within the ITU framework, including the appointment of 11 Uzbek representatives to high positions at recent ITU sessions.

The meeting also discussed cooperation in telecommunications, emphasizing the importance of sharing experiences with the ITU to develop Uzbekistan’s telecommunication infrastructure, provide competitive services, and strengthen international ties.

Regulating artificial intelligence (AI) security was another topic of discussion. The participants acknowledged the need to prevent the misuse of AI while harnessing its power and capabilities, marking its regulation as a critical global issue.

Minister Sherzod Shermatov underscored the significance of collaboration with the ITU for Uzbekistan and highlighted the importance of integrating international experiences into the development of digital and information-communication technologies.

In conclusion, the parties explored future cooperation opportunities and discussed continuing collaboration to enhance the country’s IT potential and share Uzbekistan’s digital technology experiences with other countries through the ITU. They also outlined proposals to strengthen cooperation with foreign states, leveraging Uzbekistan’s existing capabilities within the ITU framework.
