State Security Service officers seize 78 kg of drugs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan seized 78 kg of drugs.

According to the press service of the State Security Service, law enforcement agencies detained six citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Tajikistan who were involved in drug smuggling in the Urgut district of the Samarkand region, bordering the Penjikent region of Tajikistan.

Some 11 kg 502 g of opium, imported from a neighboring country, were seized from them. US$2,600, 12.69 million soums and 850 Tajik somoni were also seized. The State Security Service reports that the detainees planned to distribute drugs in Uzbekistan.

In Yangiyul district of Tashkent region, a citizen of Kazakhstan was detained, from whom 46 kg 738 g of hashish were seized in his bag. His accomplice, a 48-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, and the driver, a 60-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, were also detained. It turned out that the drugs were smuggled from Afghanistan.

At the road patrol post in the Pap district of the Namangan region, a Gentra car traveling along the Tashkent-Fergana route was inspected. Two brothers traveling in a car were found to have 19 kg 885 g of hashish. Law enforcement officers also arrested their accomplice, who was waiting for them in another car. It is reported that they transported drugs left by drug couriers from Tajikistan to the Akhangaran district of the Tashkent region. All three detainees are residents of Margilan.

Criminal cases have been initiated on all facts, and the suspects have been taken into custody.
