Starting in 2025, cash payments will no longer be accepted on urban buses in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  As of 1 January 2025, cash payments will be discontinued on buses in Uzbekistan. This was announced by Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov.

According to him, passengers will only be able to purchase tickets or QR codes for cash at stations equipped with special information kiosks.

Makhkamov noted that a similar experiment is already underway in Tashkent, which will eliminate the need for conductors and reduce cash collection.

Additionally, the Ministry of Transport plans to purchase 1,294 new buses for public transport in the near future, with a particular focus on acquiring electric buses for Tashkent and Samarkand.

By 2030, the total number of buses is expected to increase to 5,000, with the number of electric buses reaching 2,000, ensuring modern public transportation for all cities and regions of the country.
