Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Officers of the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan have arrested a senior prosecutor in Tashkent on suspicion of bribery. According to the SSS, the prosecutor offered to falsify the results of a judicial expertise in exchange for money.

According to the SS, in 2021, the head of a company in Syrdarya region specializing in special equipment signed a contract with a Chinese company in Uzbekistan for the supply of multifunctional drilling equipment worth $1.7 million. However, instead of multifunctional equipment, single-function equipment was delivered. As a result, a criminal case was initiated against the Chinese company, and the investigation was conducted in the Jizzakh region.

An expertise conducted as part of the criminal case showed that the equipment indeed was multifunctional.

According to the information, a certain man offered to assist the dissatisfied entrepreneur through his influential acquaintances. He promised to arrange for a repeat expertise and obtain a positive conclusion in exchange for US$155,000.

Subsequently, SSS officers arrested him while receiving US$105,000. It was found that the man attempted to resolve the issue through the senior prosecutor of the department responsible for administrative judicial cases at the city prosecutor’s office, and his intermediary — the head of an insurance center.

All participants in the process were arrested under criminal charges under Article 168 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Fraud) and placed in custody.
