Speed Limit on M39 Highway in Surkhandarya May Be Raised to 130 km/h

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Certain sections of the international M39 highway in Surkhandarya region may soon allow a speed limit of up to 130 km/h, according to a report by the Surkhandarya TV channel.

The decision to potentially increase the speed limit was made following a video conference chaired by the President of Uzbekistan. The meeting focused on enhancing road safety, reducing traffic congestion, and modernizing infrastructure.

To implement the President’s directives, a working group was formed and tasked with inspecting the M39 segment running from Termez to Boysun. Based on the inspection, the following speed limits have been proposed:

  • 1315–1324 km (Okrabot settlement): 90 km/h
  • 1324–1326 km (Shifobuloq mahalla): 70 km/h
  • 1337–1349 km: 100 km/h
  • 1374–1400 km (Sherabad district): 130 km/h

To ensure road safety on the 1321–1391 km section of the highway, the following measures are planned:

  • Installation of concrete barriers on 7 kilometers of hazardous curves
  • Replacement of 475 damaged road signs
  • Installation of 1,800 new signs at 20 accident-prone locations
  • Renewal of road markings along the 1315–1400 km stretch
  • Repair of road surface and fixing defects on six bridges

Once all the upgrades are completed, the road will be reassessed. If it meets the required standards, the 130 km/h speed limit will be officially implemented.
