Spain toughens quarantine terms

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – From 30 March 2020, the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has tightened quarantine in this country, reports Dunyo news agency.

According to current statistics, Spain today is one of the four countries most affected by the coronavirus epidemic and the second most deadly in consequence of this disease.

In this regard, in order to minimize the movement of citizens, the country’s government decided to tighten quarantine measures from 30 March to 9 April. Thus, starting today in Spain, all whose work is not vital were left at home. Only food producers or workwear manufacturers will be allowed to leave their homes.

According to the document, the main employees are those who are necessary to maintain basic social functions, as well as the health, safety, social and economic well-being of citizens, the effective functioning of state institutions and government bodies.

The Royal Decree of 14 March, which declared a public health emergency caused by COVID-19, provides for a number of restrictions and activities that may continue. Among them, in particular:

- trade and basic services: grocery stores, essentials (pharmaceutical, medical, optical and orthopedic products), printed matter and stationery, gas stations, tobacco shops, pet stores, Internet providers, telephone and postal services, laundries, banking services;

- all companies operating in the field of supplies and services are the only ones who can continue their activities from 30 March to 9 April, whose functions are related to the primary and food sectors, for example, agriculture and fisheries, production of work clothes or pharmaceuticals, as well as activities related to the transportation and distribution of all products considered vital.

Sanchez also stated that all employees engaged in non-essential activities will have to stay at home for the next two weeks. Moreover, the state guarantees the payment of wages.

Employees will continue to receive salaries as usual, and after the end of the state of emergency in the country, they will restore work hours “gradually and with an interval in time”, for example, one hour a day, on the basis of agreements between enterprises and trade unions until 31 December.
