Some US$1 billion to be directed for the introduction of renewable energy sources in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- It is planned to direct US$1 billion for the introduction of renewable energy source in Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting with the participation of the public of Tashkent noted the increased demand of the capital for electricity and gas.

The President said that calculations had been made to solve problems in the energy sector in Tashkent.

According to him, first of all, it is planned to use the potential of renewable energy.

The head of Uzbekistan noted that solar panels with a total capacity of 2,000 MW could be installed in the capital.

Solar panels can be used to cover the roofs of multi-storey buildings, social facilities, buildings of state bodies and private enterprises, industrial zones, car parks and large water structures, the head of state noted.

According to calculations, thanks to the introduction of solar panels, the expected demand for energy in the amount of 240 million kWh in 2023 can be covered by more than 4 times, generating 1.08 billion kWh of energy.

The President noted that it is planned to generate 400 million kWh of energy through the installation of solar panels in industrial zones and large enterprises and 75 million kWh at social facilities and government buildings.

At the same time, a large solar power plant with a capacity of 500 MW will be built in Yukorichirchik district (Tashkent region).

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the state will guarantee to purchase electricity generated by enterprises from 2023 and by the population from 2024.

The President noted that the state will pay the population 1,000 soums for each kW of energy received from solar panels (the current tariff is 295 soums). Monthly calculations will be made, and the money will be transferred to the owner of the house on a plastic card, the President noted.
