Some 42% of population has access to digital TV
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Digital television currently covers 42% of population of Uzbekistan, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The session summed up results of social-economic development of Uzbekistan for 2012 and approved main perspectives of economic programme for 2013.

Islam Karimov said that Uzbekistan carried out stage-by-stage introduction of digital television in several regions. He said that digital television transmitters were installed in Ferghana, Navoi, Syrdarya and Surkhandarya regions.

Uzbek President said these measures helped to increase level of digital television coverage level up to 42%.

Uzbekistan will continue to implement projects on development of digital television through installation of five digital television transmitters in Jizzakh, Tashkent, Ferghana and Khorezm regions. This will help to increase coverage from 42% to 45%, he added.

President underlined that it is planned to create construction over 2,000 km of optic-fibre lines for broadband access, which will allow to render video telephony, Internet television, high speed internet, HDTV channels, and other services.

Uzbekistan plans to fully move to digital television from 2015, which will help to provide high quality television to population.
