Some 28 killed in coal mine explosion in northern Turkey

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At least 28 people were killed and 20 injured in an explosion in a mine in Bartin in northern Turkey, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter. Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu previously reported that a total of 110 people were working at the mine at the time of the incident. The Minister of Health said that the authorities are doing everything possible to resolve the consequences.

The largest man-made disaster in recent years occurred in Turkey on Friday. A powerful explosion occurred in a mine in the Bertin province, located in the north of the country. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to regional authorities, the emergency mine is located in the city of Amasra, the explosion occurred at a depth of about 300 meters.

According to local media, citing the provincial governor Bartyn Nurtach Arslan, dozens of workers are still in the mine at a depth of 300 meters, and a few more at a depth of 350 meters. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said the explosion was caused by a broken transformer.

The search and rescue operation continues. Rescuers do not lose hope of finding the blocked people alive. In turn, the investigation finds out the causes of the tragedy.
