Small businesses in Uzbekistan produce 41.1% of GDP
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Small business entities produced 41.1% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half of 2010 against 40.9% in January-June 2009.

The sector provided jobs to 8.499 million persons (74 of total persons employed in the economy). In particular, the individual sector employed 6,644 million persons and small enterprises and microfirms – 1,854 million persons.

Small businesses’ industrial output made up 2.583 trillion soums (16.7% of total industrial production), which is up by 22.1% year-on-year.

The sector used investments for 1.969 trillion soums (27.7%of total utilized investments), executed construction works for 1.868 trillion soums (47.5%of total construction works), which is 27.5% more year-on-year.

Small businesses ensured the growth of freight turnover of motor transport by 7.4% (73% of total freight turnover) and passenger turnover - by 8.2% (83.7% of total passenger turnover).

The sector formed 48.4% (4.639 trillion soums) of total retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan (+21.3%), 42.4% (1.436 trillion soums) of total paid services (+9.7%).

Small entrepreneurs exported goods worth US$652.7 million (10.6% of total exports), which is down by 7.9% year-on-year, and imported goods for US$1.384 billion (38% of total imports), which down by 43.7% year-on-year.
