The meeting was organized by Forum of social responsible citizens of Uzbekistan and attended by the chairperson of the Forum Gulnara Karimova.

The meeting was held at Surkhon Termez Silk, which was founded by the businesswoman and the winner of competition “Woman of the Year” Oydin Sharafuddinova in 2009.

Currently, 150 people received jobs at the enterprise. The plant allowed to launch cocoon processing in Surkhandarya region and produce both raw and ready products in the region.

The enterprise imported special technologies on cocoon processing from China, which helped to modernize industry in the region. The plant differs with its innovative approach and intends to contribute to development of the region. The plant annually produces 400 tonnes of dry cocoons or 100-110 tonnes of raw silk.

Along with silk, Surkhon Termez Silk produces several types of adras and silk carpets. Its products are highly demanded in Uzbekistan and exported to Turkey, Iran, OAE, etc.

The plant conducts researches directed at cultivation of special sorts of silkworms, which earlier imported to Uzbekistan from abroad.

The meeting is logical continuation of the extended session of Republican Public Council of Forum of Social Responsible Citizens of Uzbekistan.

At the session, the participants discussed current state of silkworm breeding in Uzbekistan, opportunities for silk producers. The session adopted recommendations on further development of the sector.

The visit to Surhon Termez Silk gave real chance to familiarize with the current state of silkworm breeding industry.
