Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Silk Road International, an Uzbek-Chinese joint venture, has established freight transportation along the transport corridor “China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan – Afghanistan”. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
The venture was established in February 2018 with the participation of the Joint Stock Company "Urta Osiyo Trans". The main activity of the joint venture is organization of cargo transportation along the new road corridor "Tashkent - Andijan - Osh - Irkeshtam - Kashgar (China)" and back.
Now the company carries out regular transportation of beans, cotton yarn, juices and nectars from Uzbekistan to China. In the opposite direction, construction materials, seedlings, car spare parts and consumer goods are imported.
In July-August 2018, the joint venture successfully carried out two pilot shipments of goods by road from China to Afghanistan via the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China transport corridor.
In the first case, transportation of technical oils was carried out, in the second case components and raw materials were transported. Terms of transportation were 12 and 9 days respectively.
“Based on the results of the pilot transportation, it is possible to state with certainty that the road route “Kashgar (China) - Osh - Andijan - Tashkent – Hairaton” is the most optimal for transportation of foreign trade goods between the China and Afghanistan, both import and export,” Chairman of the Board of JSC "Urta Osiyo Trans" Bahodir Islamov said. “This route has great potential for long-term development, and Silk Road International is ready to carry out uninterrupted shipments on this route without transshipment of goods en route to destinations in China and Afghanistan.”
It should be noted that recently Silk Road International became the first Uzbek international road carriers to start the transportation of cargo along the corridor "Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China" in line with the system of the "Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods with the Application of the International Road Transport Book (TIR)".
It is assumed that due to the use of TIR-carnet books, when transporting foreign trade goods between China and Afghanistan, the delivery time along the indicated route may be 5-7 days.
