Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarizes himself with new electric train

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 6 December, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took a trip on the newly launched electric train operating on the Tashkent–Khojikent route, where he was introduced to its technical characteristics and capabilities.

According to a decree by the head of state from 10 October of last year, the joint-stock company "Uzbekistan Temir Yullari" is undergoing transformation. As part of these changes, six independent enterprises have been established, responsible for infrastructure, wagon servicing, and passenger transport.

The country’s railway fleet is actively expanding. New trains have been purchased, and the frequency of high-speed electric trains "Afrosiyab" between Tashkent and historical cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Karshi has increased.

Over the past few years, more than 3,000 kilometers of railways have been electrified. Work is nearing completion on the Bukhara–Urganch–Khiva line, while work on the Miskin–Nukus route is progressing at an accelerated pace. A new electrified road has been built around Tashkent, increasing the train capacity by 30%.

The new electric train, launched on the Tashkent–Khojikent route, can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and accommodates 586 passengers. The train’s spacious and comfortable cars are equipped with information boards and fire safety systems. Three trains will run daily in each direction.

During the trip, the President was briefed on the development of railway infrastructure, improving passenger conditions, progress on electrification, and the beautification of areas along railway tracks.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed that the areas adjacent to the railway between Tashkent and Khojikent be included in the 2025 renovation program. He also noted the necessity of straightening the winding sections of the route to increase the number of trains and expand passenger traffic.

Special attention was given to greening efforts under the "Yashil Makon" project. The importance of planting drought-resistant plants along the railway embankments, using international best practices in regions with limited water resources, and introducing saplings adapted to local climate conditions was emphasized.
