Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the son of the incumbent head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was elected the new president of Turkmenistan. 72.97% of voters voted for Berdimuhamedov.
According to "Turkmenistan-Today" with reference to the Central Commission for holding elections and referendums, 3,362,052 out of 3,460,080 total number of registered voters voted in the country, which amounted to 97.17 percent.
There were nine candidates in the elections.
According to the voting results, the director of the financial and economic specialized secondary school of Lebap velayat Perhat Begendzhov scored 2.02 percent, the deputy khyakim of Mary velayat Agadzhan Bekmyradov - 7.22 percent, the deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov 72.97 percent, the head doctor of the Awaza sanatorium of Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, deputy of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Berdimammet Kurbanov 2.22 percent, director of the Wepaly gurluşyk economic society Meredov Tirkeshovich 1.08 percent, vice-rector for scientific work of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Khydyr Nunnaev 11.09 percent, Chairman of the Committee of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan of Saparmurat Turkmenbashi etrap, Dashoguz velayat Maksat Myradovich Odeshov 1.15 percent, Head of the Sanitary and epidemiological service of Babadaykhan etrap, Akhal velayat Maksatmurad Ashirgel Ovezgeldiyev 1.16 percent, director of the Research and Production Center "Renewable Energy Sources" of the Turkmen State Energy Institute Kakageldy Atajanovich Sariyev 1.09 percent of the vote.
In accordance with Article 76 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan and based on the decision of the Central Election Commission from 14 March 2022, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who received 72.97 percent of the votes, was recognized as the elected President of Turkmenistan.
