Senators discuss the legal basis for expanding coverage of mobile communications and mobile Internet

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 June this year, the Senate Committee on Information Policy and Ensuring Openness in State Bodies preliminary considered issues that are planned to be discussed as part of the agenda of the next plenary session of the Senate.

The meeting was attended by members of the Committee, senior officials of relevant state bodies and organizations, experts and media representatives.

In particular, the Law “On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Radio Frequency Spectrum” was discussed in detail.

It was noted that in recent years, large-scale work has been carried out to expand the coverage of mobile communications and mobile Internet, improve the quality of communication services provided in hard-to-reach and remote areas, the coverage of settlements with fiber-optic communication lines has reached 81%, and the coverage of mobile Internet - 98%.

It was noted that this Law introduces the procedure for sharing the radio frequency spectrum, taking into account advanced international experience.

Thus, it is allowed to use more than one user of the radio frequency spectrum of radio frequency bands, it is established that this process is carried out by concluding an agreement between them on the basis of the appropriate permission of the radio frequency authority.

At the same time, it is provided that this permission is issued according to the radio frequency bands, which are determined by the state authority for the radio frequency spectrum.

The law also simplifies the procedure for licensing and issuing permits to entities operating in the field, according to which it is established that when conducting design research and development work, it is not required to obtain a permit from the relevant state body.

Now, for carrying out research and development work, a permit obtained by the user of the radio frequency spectrum from the relevant state bodies for the use of radio electronic means and high-frequency devices on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be sufficient.

Members of the Committee noted that this Law serves the further efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum, the development of telecommunications networks, as well as providing the population with better telecommunications services.

At the end of the meeting, the appropriate decision of the Committee was adopted.
