Senators approved a law aimed at further strengthening social protection of citizens

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the fiftieth plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at further strengthening the social protection of citizens” was considered.

It was noted that the country is gradually implementing reforms aimed at strengthening the social protection of elderly and disabled people. In particular, pension assignment procedures are simplified and digitalized, unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles are eliminated, and the quality of public services in the pension system is radically improved.

At the same time, it is necessary to reduce the human factor when assigning pensions to citizens, to further improve the quality of provision of public services to the elderly, persons with disabilities and those who have lost their breadwinner.

This Law amends the Law “On Rent”, stipulating the abolition of the grounds for termination of a lease agreement in the event of the tenant becoming disabled.

Also, the Law “On State Pension Provision of Citizens” envisages an increase in the period for payment of the accrued pension amount not claimed by the pensioner from twelve months to twenty-four months.

The Law also defines the procedure for establishing the minimum pension amount at a level not lower than the minimum consumer expenditures, increasing the size of pensions taking into account the growth rate of the level of the consumer price index for goods and services during the year, as well as the requirement to take into account the period of activity of convicts during imprisonment in as a type of activity giving the right to receive a pension.

In addition, amendments are being made to the Law “On Accumulative Pension Provision of Citizens” to provide that information on a citizen’s acquisition of the right to state pension provision, sent by the Pension Fund to the People’s Bank in electronic form through the information system, is the basis for receiving accumulative pension payments.

According to the senators, the Law is aimed at implementing the principle of the social state of New Uzbekistan and serves to further improve the material well-being of pensioners, expand the opportunities for citizens to independently receive electronic government services, introduce a system for accounting for inflation when recalculating the amount of pensions, and further strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities in rental relations.

At the end of the discussion, this Law was approved by the senators.
