Senators approve the Law on the Ratification of ILO Convention No. 95 on the Protection of Wages

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the fiftieth plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On the ratification of the International Labor Organization Convention No. 95 on the Protection of Wages (Geneva, on 1 July 1949)” was considered.

The Convention aims to ensure that employers pay wages in cash on time. The rules of the Convention apply to all persons to whom wages are paid or payable. The Convention applies to all areas of economic activity and categories of workers.

During the discussion, it was noted that the Convention prohibits the payment of wages in the form of promissory notes, receipts, coupons or other forms, as well as alcoholic beverages with a high alcohol content, drugs harmful to the body.

The senators noted that the norms of the Convention are fully consistent with the legislation of Uzbekistan, as well as the goals and objectives of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy.

During the discussion, it was noted that ratification of the Convention will create additional guarantees for the protection of workers’ rights and will give a significant impetus to the further improvement of the national labor protection system.

This Convention has been ratified by 99 countries.

The senators especially noted that ratification of the Convention serves to improve national labor legislation and ensure the effective implementation of international labor standards, and also confirms Uzbekistan’s commitment to basic international principles and standards for ensuring guarantees of workers’ rights.

Following the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
