Senators approve boundary changes for several districts and cities in Samarkand region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a plenary session, members of the upper house of parliament discussed in detail the issue of changing the boundaries of Samarkand city, as well as the Samarkand and Akdarya districts of the Samarkand region.
The senators emphasized that these changes are crucial for improving living conditions for the population, developing engineering and communication infrastructure, building social facilities such as schools, kindergartens, and medical institutions, and creating new jobs.
It was recalled that on 20 July 2023, a decree was adopted by the President regarding the "Measures for the Construction of the Modern Business Center and Residential Complex 'Shirin' in Samarkand." The Senate's consideration of this matter is a significant step in implementing this initiative, which takes into account the region's specifics.
Specifically, to address the population's housing needs, it was proposed to utilize a 15 km stretch along the Zarafshan River, passing through Samarkand. This area was deemed suitable for residential purposes and has been included in the project for the construction of the "Shirin" business center and residential complex, which is estimated to cost US$10 billion.
The proposed changes include the transfer of 243 hectares of land from the Akdarya district into the city of Samarkand, including 170 hectares from the Samarkand district, totaling 413 hectares. As a result, the area of the "Shirin" complex, initially covering 252 hectares, will be expanded to 665 hectares.
According to the approved plan, 254 multi-story residential buildings will be constructed on this land, with 60,000 apartments. Additionally, 45 social facilities are planned, designed to serve 180,000 people.
The project will be implemented in three stages, and upon completion of the business center and residential complex, around 50,000 new jobs will be created in various sectors of the economy.
Senators unanimously agreed that expanding the city boundaries would be a key factor in Samarkand's development. It will not only improve the city's architectural appearance and enhance its amenities but will also attract domestic and foreign investors, boost the region's tourism potential, and accelerate the development of business, financial, and tourism infrastructure. Most importantly, it will improve the quality of life for the population.
Following the discussion, the Senate adopted the relevant resolution.
