Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-third plenary session of the Senate, the results of a parliamentary request sent to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cleaning river beds and strengthening their banks, the negative impact of mining of non-metallic minerals on the environment, water and road facilities were discussed. economy.

The study of the work carried out by the Cabinet of Ministers has shown that the fulfillment of a number of tasks defined in the Senate resolution has not been sufficiently ensured, topical issues have not been resolved.

In particular, the procedure for accepting a deposit or a site from business entities engaged in the extraction of sand and gravel in riverbeds, after the expiration of the license or agreement, has not been developed.

Given that the extraction of sand and gravel from rivers has a negative impact on groundwater and the environment, no proposal was made to establish a single body managing rivers.

An unequivocal decision has not been made on the issue of declaring a moratorium on the extraction of sand and gravel on an industrial scale on the Chirchik, Zarafshan, Akdarya, Kashkadarya, Sangzar and Karadarya rivers.

Proposals have not been developed for the creation of specialized industrial zones on the territories for the extraction of non-metallic minerals, as well as the production of sand, split stone for construction.

The senators noted that on the territory of the Zarafshan National Natural Park, located on the banks of the Zarafshan River, the trees are drying up due to a drop in the groundwater level by 3-4 meters, illegal mining of sand and gravel on the Akdarya and Karadarya rivers has a negative impact on the environment, facilities water and road management, at present the water level in the rivers has decreased by 5 meters, and the supporting pillars of bridges on highways built over river beds are exposed.

As a result of the discussion, the corresponding resolution of the Senate was adopted.
