Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 March, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting between Odiljon Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments, and Tourism, and Tamir Fathi Abdussalam Hammad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uzbekistan.

The discussions primarily focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two nations and the participation of the Egyptian delegation in the upcoming 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to take place in Tashkent from April 5 to 9, 2024.

Odiljon Mamatkarimov emphasized that hosting such a large-scale event in Uzbekistan is a historic milestone. The assembly is expected to bring together approximately 2,000 parliamentarians from nearly 190 IPU member countries.

Ambassador Tamir Hammad confirmed that the Egyptian delegation will comprise 14 members, led by the Speaker of Parliament. He also expressed confidence in the successful organization of the event and underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between the legislative bodies of both countries.

During the meeting, the parties discussed organizational aspects related to Egypt’s participation in the assembly, as well as prospects for further developing inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent will mark a significant step in enhancing Uzbekistan’s international standing and expanding its cooperation with the global community.
