Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 February, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis held another session of the Organizing Committee for preparations for the 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The meeting was chaired by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Sodik Safoyev.
Previously, it was announced that, at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the largest international forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in Tashkent from April 5 to 9, 2025. This significant event, bringing together representatives of 190 national parliaments, is hosted only by countries with a high level of parliamentary governance and a strong track record of sustainable development. For the first time in Central Asian history, such a major assembly will take place in the region.
The key theme of the upcoming event is "The Parliamentary Movement for Social Progress and Justice." Delegations, led by heads of national parliaments, will address a broad range of topics, including social protection, poverty reduction, the rule of law, human rights, gender equality, scientific and technological development, and youth empowerment.
During the session, special attention was given to organizational matters for this global forum. Participants discussed responsibility allocation among institutions handling various aspects of the event and the specific measures required for the successful implementation of the action plan.
