Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Free self-help groups have appeared in the capital of Uzbekistan for families caring for relatives with dementia. There participants can communicate with people with a similar life situation, get psychological support and practical skills for caring for loved ones.
The organizer of self-help groups is the HAMROH Help Center, which provides personalized treatment and care for people with dementia at home.
“At the organization, we want people living with dementia to have a platform for communication and exchange of experiences, where they can learn new things, find ways to solve difficulties together and simply support each other. We try to have a specialist present at each group - a psychiatrist who works with people with dementia and can also help with any questions that arise. For now, we hold groups once a month, but if there is a need, we will be happy to make them more frequent,” says Akmal Aliyev, psychiatrist, head of HAMROH.
Meetings of self-help groups take place in a warm, friendly atmosphere, in the format of conversations over tea. Not only relatives can participate in them, but also people with dementia themselves - you can come with the whole family.
