Second meeting of Central Asian Transport Ministers Held

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 8 August 2024, the Second Meeting of Central Asian Transport Ministers was held in Astana, ahead of the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. The event brought together the transport ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed pressing issues of cooperation in the areas of transit corridors, railway and road transport, as well as air transport. Particular emphasis was placed on the policies being pursued by these countries to enhance transport connectivity, including the construction of highways and railways, the opening of new international air routes, and the expansion of the existing network.

At the conclusion of the event, the Astana Communiqué was signed, solidifying the parties' intentions to further strengthen cooperation.

Additionally, the ministers signed a Memorandum aimed at fostering collaboration among the countries to create a favorable environment for attracting investment, developing infrastructure, and improving the regulatory framework governing the activities of transport and logistics centers.

The signing of the Memorandum is a logical continuation of the Agreement on Strengthening Connectivity of Land Transport in Central Asia, signed in 2023 in Dushanbe.
