Second-half salvo sinks Uzbeks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan conceded two second-half goals to lose 2-0 to Ukraine as the Central Asians continue preparations for next month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against neighbours Kyrgyzstan.

The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ semi-finalists went a goal down nine minutes after the interval when veteran Bayern Munich midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk before Dynamo Moscow striker Andriy Voronin added a second on the hour mark.

The Uzbeks, who fielded only a handful of players from the side that reached the final for at Qatar 2011, will continue the build up to the July 23 World Cup qualifier in China, with head coach Vadim Abramov (pictured) saying that the Ukraine-based skipper Maksim Shatskikh and those squad members plying their trade in Russia will not make the trip.

Abramov, however, added that Uzbekistan’s South Korea-based contingent, which includes former AFC Player of the Year Server Djeparov and Alexander Geynrikh, who ply their trade with 2011 AFC Champions League quarter-finalists FC Seoul and Suwon Samsung Bluewings respectively, will be available.
