Scottish voters have rejected independence
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Scotland has voted “No” to independence in a referendum, meaning its 300-year old union with the UK will continue. Only 45% of people voted for Independence of Scotland from Great Britain.

Scotland held the referendum on 18 September 2014. The citizens of Scotland should decide if they want to be independent from the UK. Voters’ turnout made up 85%.

According to latest data, about 44.7% (1,617,989 people) voted for Independence of Scotland, while against independence – 55.3% (2,001,926 people).

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond accepted defeat. “Scotland has, by majority, decided at this stage not to be an independent nation. I accept that decision and call on all people in Scotland to do so,” he said.
