SCO RATS elects supreme chairman
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
First deputy head of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Adil Shayakhmetov was elected to the supreme chairman of the Regional Antiterrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at a meeting of its Council in Tashkent on Friday.
Participants in the 15th meeting heard a report of the director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee on the implementation of the programme of cooperation in the fight with terrorism, extremism and separatism.
According to Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Security Service, General of the Army Sergei Smirnov, the meeting participants also discussed problems of protecting the information and telecommunication systems between competent bodies of the SCO member-countries.
An agreement was reached at the meeting to hold a regular 16th meeting of the SCO RATS Council in Tashkent in April 2010.
