SCO Interbank Association holds meeting in China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Sixth session of the Interbank Association’s Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Beijing, China. The China Development Bank chaired the meeting.

Participants discussed perspectives of use of national currencies in settlements and crediting of investment projects, wide use public-private partnership in implementation of investment projects, further mechanisms on selecting joint projects, use of capital markets and security exchanges of the SCO member states.

Chairperson of Russia’s Vnesheconombank Vladimir Dmitriev called for developing mid-term and long-term strategy of the development of the Association taking into account experience of five-year operation and new post-crisis realities. Participants supported the idea.

Vladimir Dmitriev underlined that the Association should focus to solve complicated tasks, including support of innovative development of the SCO members’ economies.

Participants also discussed realization of “Action programme to support regional economic cooperation among member-banks of the Interbank Association within the SCO”, which was adopted in Shanghai, China in 2006. They positively evaluated carried out measures within the programme.

The SCO Interbank Association considered issues of current activities, ways of raising interaction with the SCO Business Council and financial institutions of the SCO observer countries.

During the meeting, chairman of the board of Kazakhstan Development Bank Gali Iskaliev has been elected as chairman of the Council of the Interbank Association for 2010-2011.

Interbank Association of the SCO focuses on supporting regional economic cooperation. It was founded on 26 October 2005. The Association unites authorized banks of the SCO member states – Kazakhstan Development Bank, Vnesheconombank (Russia), Tajikistan State Saving Bank “Amonatbonk”, National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan. In 2008, Eurasian Development Bank became partner of the Association.
