Samarkand region economy grows by 9.7% in 20092009
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Samarkand region reported that gross regional product (GRP) grew by 9.7% in 2009. Industrial production rose by 12% and agriculture output grew by 5%.

Production of consumer goods increased by 18.1% and the volume of retail trade rose by 16.8% in 2009. The volume of service rose by 21.6% and paid service – 33.1%.

In line with the programme on industrial development, expansion and modernization of production, 65 new enterprises were commissioned and capacities of 40 enterprises were expanded. About 28 billion soums were directed to this purpose, the report said.

The region used US$37.7 million on 65 projects in 2009 in line with regional programme on attraction of investments and loans. In the result, additional goods for 149.8 billion soums were produced. The region exported goods for US$14.2 million.

In the reporting period, 17 new enterprises with foreign investments were founded. Within localization programme, 25 projects were implemented and goods for 163.5 billion soums were produced.
