"Samarkand Marathon 2022" in numbers: how the charity run is going (photo report)

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 6 November, the Samarkand Marathon charity race is being held in Samarkand from early morning! All funds received from entry fees will be directed to the charitable goal of the marathon this year - the adaptation of museums for the blind and visually impaired people.

"Samarkand Marathon 2022" is:

- More than 3300 participants from 40 countries of the world!

- Distances in 42.2 km, 21.2 km, 10 and 2 km!

- Kids Run 300m and 600m!

- An interesting cultural program for the participants of the marathon and the whole city!

- Concert of Anton Belyaev’s band Therr Maitz on Registan Square!

- A noble charitable goal - the adaptation of museums for the blind and visually impaired people!

Samarkand Marathon is an international charity marathon in Uzbekistan, existing since 2019 and initiated by the Culture and Art Development Fund under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the Ministry of Sports Development and the Khokimiyat of Samarkand region. Being the flagship sporting event in the country, the marathon sets a new trend for cultural and sports festivals, bringing together thousands of participants from all over the world for charitable purposes. In 2022, the marathon entered the Abbott WMM Wanda age Group World Championship qualifying races.

Everyone at the age of 4 years old (at the distance of Kids Run) and from 18 years old (at distances of 21 and 42 km) could take part in this sports festival. The following distances are available: marathon 42 km 195 m (held in Samarkand for the first time), half marathon 21 km 097 m, run for 10 km, run for 2 km, Nordic Walking 5K (nordic walking for 5 km), as well as Kids Run (run for children from 4 to 12 years old for 300 meters or 600 meters).

Start and finish are located near Registan Square. The race runs along the central streets of Samarkand, which will allow you to see the historical sights of the city. In parallel with sports activities, participants and guests had a cultural program - on November 5, a big concert by Therr Maitz was organized, as well as performances by international DJs.

In addition, the Fourth Annual Inclusion in Culture Conference will take place on November 5 and 6. The program will raise issues of innovative programs in the museum environment, working with communities, as well as the impact of Covid-19 on the cultural context.

On 5 November, the film "SUYUNCHI" of 1982 was screened in Uzbek with audio commentary.

On 6 November, master classes were organized for specialized schools in Samarkand from the Samarkand Marathon Academy on appliqué, biomorphic abstraction, puzzles, plastinography, collage technique and generative art. There will also be a screening of the film “Mahallada duv duv gap” of 1960 in Uzbek with audio commentary.
