Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 25 to 29 August, the International University of Tourism "Silk Road" in Samarkand is hosting an international chess tournament for the "Sakhibkiran Cup".
The main task of the tournament is to widely promote chess among the population and turn it into a mass sport, create the necessary conditions for the intellectual and cultural development of the younger generation, establish a system for selecting and training highly qualified youth as professional chess players and international grandmasters.
About 18 international grandmasters, 10 international masters of sports and 10 FIDE masters of sports from ten countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, the USA and Uzbekistan) will attend the event.
The competition is held according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds. Chess players with a minimum international FIDE rating according to the 1700 standard (as of August 1, 2021) are allowed to participate.
The Rapid tournament will take place from 25 to 27 August, the blitz tournament will be held on 28 August.
The total prize fund is $ 50,000: rapid - US$40,000, blitz - US$10,000.
