Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan is currently participating in a training program for regional governors in Türkiye.

As part of this visit, on 10 February, a meeting took place in Konya between Bobur Bekmurodov, Chairman of the Yuksalish movement, and İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya and President of the Union of Municipalities of the Turkic World. The press service of Yuksalish reported on the event.

During the discussions, the parties explored prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding its scope. One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the signing of a sister city agreement between Samarkand and Konya. The document was signed by İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya, and Fazliddin Umarov, Governor of Samarkand.

Konya, one of Türkiye’s largest cities, boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. It serves as a major industrial and agricultural hub, as well as a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world. Additionally, Konya offers extensive opportunities for youth, with numerous universities and technology parks fostering IT sector development and scientific research.

The signed protocol establishes a partnership based on mutual respect, trust, and equality. Key areas of cooperation include experience exchange, economic relations, education, healthcare, support for youth initiatives, sports and tourism development, preservation of historical and cultural heritage, ecology, energy, culture and arts, information technologies, and transportation.

The agreement also aims to support entrepreneurs and investors, implement joint projects funded by international organizations, and promote social initiatives to assist vulnerable populations.

Furthermore, the protocol is expected to strengthen friendly ties between Samarkand and Konya, paving the way for fruitful collaboration and the realization of joint projects.

During their visit to the Konya Municipality, the Uzbek delegation also familiarized themselves with local affordable housing programs. Additionally, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic "Prospects for Tourism Development in Modern Conditions," where participants explored key challenges and opportunities for enhancing tourism cooperation.
