After the meeting, Russian president got acquainted with the historical monuments of the city of Samarkand on 22 January.

Accompanied by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Dmitriy Medvedev visited the Ulughbek observatory and the Saint Daniel and Gur Emir mausoleums.

At the Registan complex, the President of Russia familiarized himself with the exhibition of national craftsmanship. He also visited the local Siab market and got acquainted with the ancient methods of preparation of the Samarkand paper.

The high-ranking guest was informed about the history of the national statehood, the ancient monuments and the development of town building, science and craftsmanship on this land.

The President of Russia gave a high evaluation to the wide-scale work implemented in the years of independence under the leadership of the President Islam Karimov in Uzbekistan and its cities to preserve, restore and protect the national cultural heritage.
