Russian parliament ratifies CSTO peacemaking activity accord
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified on 26 December an agreement on peacemaking activity of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which was submitted to the lower house of parliament by the Russian President.

The agreement was signed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 6 October 2007 and it regulates issues on participation on the CSTO in peacemaking operations in world and regional levels for strengthening of its position. It also regulates issues of creating of the CSTO peacekeeping forces and sets order of recruiting.

CSTO peacemaking activity will include peacemaking activity, directed to settlement of disputes (in line with the UN Charter) and collective action, carried out by the CSTO member states with use of military, police and civil personnel to prevent, containment and cessation of military actions between states or territory of state with interference of the third side.

CSTO member states, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia and Uzbekistan, will provide permanent peacekeeping contingent in line with their legislation.

CSTO will adopt decision on organization of peacekeeping operation in line with the official application of the member state or decision of the UN Security Council.
