Russian Govn’t to consider ratification of agreement with Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The commission on legislative activities of the Government of Russia approved a draft law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments”, submitted by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The commission said that the ratification of agreement will allow to create necessary legislative framework in protecting mutual investments and solving investment disputes.

The agreement envisages to grant the most-favorouble regime for investors, in which each contracting party will provide favourable conditions to investors of other contracting party as to its own investor or other third part investor.

It guarantees protection of investments and income of investors from forced nationalization, expropriation or other measures having the same effect, except in cases where such measures are taken in the public interest. The document sets right of the investor to receive adequate compensation in case of damage to his investments. The document guarantees free transfer of payments related to the investments to abroad. It also provides measures of judicial protection of investors, including at the international arbitrations.

The commission said that the document will protect interests of the Russian and Uzbek investors, as well as boost investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia.

The ratification of the agreement will not result in additional expenses from the Federal budget, the commission said. The Government of Russia now will discuss the law at its session.
