Russian firms to invest US$431m into Uzbekistan in 2009
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A national investment programme for 2009 adopted by Uzbekistan includes a number of projects involving Russian companies with investment totaling US$431.2 million, RIA Novosti reported.

Russia’s LUKoil will invest US$237 million, Gazprom - US$35.5 million, and mobile operators VimpelCom - US$19 million, and MTS - US$120 million in the Uzbek economy next year, the agency said.

As earlier reported, Uzbekistan plans to attract foreign investments for US$1.864 billion on 86 projects in 2009, the resolution of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov, which approved the investment programme, said.

According to the resolution, the country will attract US$481.75 million under the state guarantee on 47 projects and US$1.382 billion of foreign direct investments (FDI) on 39 projects.
