Russian firm modernize Uzbek power station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russia’s Siloviye Mashiny modernized Syrdarya thermal power station, largest thermal power station in Central Asia, Uzbekenergo state joint-stock company said.

The company said the Russian firm carried out overhaul reconditioning of the fifth power-generating unit of the station with the power of 300 megawatt.

Siloviye Mashiny fully restored oil system, repaired additional equipment, assembled pipelines, rehabilitated support-overhead system and aggregate K-200, etc. The works have been carried out since 2006.

The project was financed due to own resources of Uzbekenergo state joint-stock company.

Syrdarya thermal power station was launched in 1981 with set power of 3000 megawatt. Annual electricity production makes up 13 billion kilowatt-hour or 31.7% total electricity production of Uzbekistan.

Siemens AG (Germany) carried out reconstruction works for US$45.44 million in 2002 and modernized two of ten power-generating units. EBRD allocated US427.8 million to finance the project. Uzbekenergo also financed the project from own resources.

Uzbekistan has 42 power stations with the power of 12358 megawatt, including 16 stations of Uzbekenergo with power station of 12,040 megawatt.

The country increased production of electricity in 2008 by 2.3% year-on-year to 50.1 billion kilowatt-hour.
