Russian envoy hands over medals to World War Two veterans
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenev handed over medals to World War Two veterans on 9 April 2010. The ceremony took place at the Russian Embassy in Tashkent.

During the ceremony, Tashkent citizens Mikhail Korovin and Nikolai Egorov received medals “The 65th Anniversary of Victory at the World War Two 1941-45”. Overall, 13 veterans with Russian citizenship, living in Uzbekistan, received this medal in line with the decree of the Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev.

The Embassy said the four more veterans from Andijan, Samarkand and Ferghana received their medals in their cities.

It added that other veterans, who cannot attend the ceremony, will get their medals soon, before the 65th anniversary of Victory at the World War Two.

On the same day, 55 citizens of Uzbekistan also received memorable medals “In honour of the 65th anniversary of liberation of Leningrad from fascist blockade”. Ten more awards were handed over in Bukhara, Navoi, Samarkand and Ferghana regions.
