Russian automobile industry seeks protection from GM Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russian automobile industry asked the Government of Russia to protect them from GM Uzbekistan through introduction of compensation measures.

AvtoVAZ president Igor Komarov, GAZ chairman Sergey Zanozon and Sollares director-general Vadim Svetsov directed letter to the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

In the letter, the Russian automobile industry said that the Government of Uzbekistan introduce harsh prohibitive measures in 2009, directed to protect GM Uzbekistan. The enterprises asked the Russian government to introduce restrictive measures to import of the Uzbek cars to Russia.

Russian automobile industry representatives said currency exchange fully stopped for firms, representing interest of Russian automobile plants in Uzbekistan, and consumer credits for foreign cars were banned. The letter said the Government also imposed road tax to imported cars.

The leadership of the Russian enterprises offered to response to these restrictions with compensation measures. In particular, they proposed to impose excise duty and additional fees for imported cars from Uzbekistan, as well as link currency exchange for the Uzbek vehicles with the volume of converted sum for Russian cars in Uzbekistan.

Russian automobile industry believes that these measures will help create equal conditions for foreign economic activity in Uzbekistan and Russia.
