Economy 05/07/2007 Russia, Uzbekistan eying new gas transportation systems

Russia and Uzbekistan are looking into the possibility to construct new gas transportation systems, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said today following a working visit to Tashkent.

He pointed out that Gazprom and LUKoil had been working in the republic for a long time, but the country needed to boost investment in various spheres, including geological exploration, RosBusinessConsulting of Russia reported.

Ivanov said that Uzbekistan had great potential in terms of production of natural resources. Therefore, he added that Moscow and Tashkent were in talks on modernization of gas transportation systems.

The First Deputy PM also said that the two countries had discussed enrichment of uranium, produced by Uzbekistan, in Eastern Siberia.
