Economy 10/06/2007 Russia to expand energy shipments to Asia-Pacific region - Putin

New energy projects with Russia’s participation are aimed to guarantee energy security for the whole of Eurasia and for the Asia-Pacific region, President Vladimir Putin said.

"Our new steps are intended to ensure energy security for the whole of Eurasia. This refers to the projects being implemented with our immediate neighbors and partners: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan - projects to supply hydrocarbons and gas, and to build the Northwestern gas pipeline and the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline.

Given growing needs in energy resources in Asia and the Pacific, Russia will expand shipments in this direction, as well," Putin said at the International Economic Forum in St.Petersburg, Interfax reported.
