Russia and Uzbekistan agree on integration into Central Asia unified energy system

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministries of Energy of Russia and Uzbekistan have agreed on the integration of the Russian "System Operator" into the Unified Energy System (UES) of Central Asia to manage cross-border energy flows, according to TASS, citing Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev.

Tsivilev stated that a joint statement from both ministries has been made, requesting support for the operational decision. Currently, there is a separate energy system in Central Asia to which Russia is not yet connected. However, the "System Operator" is expected to become part of this system to jointly manage the unified energy network of Central Asia. The Uzbek side fully supports this move, and the plan is to implement it soon.

The initiative is not only aimed at commercial electricity export but also at managing cross-border flows, which will allow for the efficient balancing of energy systems in response to shortages, natural factors, and high loads.

Uzbek Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov added, "If any country experiences issues, we will be able to quickly support it with cross-border flows to balance the needs. This is crucial for ensuring the security of the entire system."
