Representatives of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, National Association of Credit Unions and Microfinance Organizations, Credit Unions Association and credit unions participated at the event.
International expert Sigitas Bubnys, who was attracted to consult on improving regulation and supervision of credit unions within the GTZ, also attended the roundtable.
Due to realization of the programme on developing microfinancing in Uzbekistan up to 2010, number of the credit unions in Uzbekistan reached 110 and their assets made up 249.3 billion soums as of 1 April 2010. About 171,900 people and organizations are members of the unions.
Among current tasks of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan is to protect interest of clients and prevent possible risks related with the activity of credit unions along with increasing assets and clients’ number.
The roundtable discussed issues of improving regulation and supervision of credit unions to protect customs of credit unions and preventing possible risks, improving supervision of credit unions and creating system on guaranteeing deposits at credit unions.
