Road transport is the leader in passenger transportation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) analyzed changes in passenger traffic by mode of transport in Uzbekistan for 2017-2022.

The analysis revealed that the number of passengers carried by all modes of transport in Uzbekistan increased from 5.68 billion people in 2017 to 6.17 billion people in 2022, and passenger turnover increased from 130.0 billion pass-km up to 144.7 billion pass-km.

In particular:

- in 2022, the share of road transport in the total number of passengers carried was 97.5%, or 6.02 billion people compared to 5.59 billion people in 2017. In turn, passenger traffic in road transport increased from 117.7 billion pass-km to 129.2 billion pass-km, respectively.

- the number of passengers using the subway has doubled, from 61.6 million to 136.7 million people. Passenger traffic also doubled from 459.1 million to 996.8 million pass-km.

In 2017-2022, the number of passengers transported by air almost doubled, from 2.2 million to 4.1 million people. While the passenger turnover on this type of transport increased from 7.5 billion pass-km to 10.9 billion pass-km.

In order to develop passenger transportation services until 2026, the country plans to:

- cover 95% of settlements with public transport and open 278 new bus routes;

- double the capacity of 11 international airports in the regions, as well as gradually increase the share of private airlines and low-cost airlines on local routes up to 25%;

- increase the total length of the metro to 157 kilometers and bring the number of stations to 74 units.
