Tashkent hosts rights of women and children
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- International roundtable titled “Rights of women and children in human rights system: international and national aspects”, which was dedicated to the Year of Family, was held in Tashkent on 29 February 2012.

The event was organized by the Human Rights Commissioner of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (Ombudsperson), National Center for Human Rights, and Office of Regional Dialogue in Uzbekistan (Slovenia).

At the roundtable, it was noted that it is important for Uzbekistan to hold this event in connection with announcement of 2012 as the Year of Family.

Legal, economic and social protection of family is one of key directions of Uzbekistan’s state policy. Uzbekistan adopted laws, presidential resolution, government decisions and state programmes in this direction.

Uzbekistan conducts targeted measures on implementation of legal acts on family issues, which are directed, first of all to:

- Creation and improvement of legal bases for social protection of maternity and childhood;

- Creation of economic conditions for strengthening family, well-being of mothers and children, upbringing healthy generation and preventing neglect among children;

- Implementation of the state programme in healthcare, education, employment of population and social protection of citizens, including vulnerable women, children, and elder people;

- Creation of conditions for opening new jobs, including out-works in rural areas, develop employment programmes, etc.

- Carry out measures on rendering material aid and moral support of youth and needy families.

The roundtable participants underlined that announcement of 2012 as the Year of Family is symbolic and corresponds to saying “Strong family – strong state”. At the moment, the work on strengthening of family will be strengthened further in 2012.

The family is one of key conditions for development of any society and its viability. It is also human value, while maternity and childhood are unique period of human development. Future of any society and humanity depends from level of spiritual and physical development of family.

It is worth to mention that the event is part of the State programme “The Year of Family”, which was approved by the President of Uzbekistan. The programme envisages adoption of wide-scale measures on strengthening and development of family institute, young families, upbringing healthy, spiritually and harmonically developed young generation.

Participants underlined that the government’s complex measures are directed at further strengthening and developing family institute as foundation of the society, lifting works on strengthening legal and social-economic protection of family to new level and its role in upbringing healthy, spiritually and harmonically developed young generation.

Participants of the roundtable also discussed implementation of international standards on women and children rights in Uzbekistan, legal protection of women, etc.

The event participants developed recommendations on increasing efficiency of the state bodies and officials on protection of women and children rights and interests.
