Resident of Andijan Region Sentenced to 8.5 Years in Prison for Participation in Terrorist Activities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A 28-year-old resident of the Andijan district in Uzbekistan’s Andijan region has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of participating in terrorist activities.
According to the investigation, since 2023 he had been a member of the banned terrorist organization Tavhid va Jihod Katibasi, promoting religious extremism and disseminating related materials through social media.
It was established that he maintained contact with members of the organization and planned to join its militant units to take part in armed clashes and terrorist acts under the pretext of “jihad.”
To provide financial support to terrorists, he carried out money transfers, sending $2,912 in cryptocurrency and 4.19 million soums through bank cards in 2023–2024.
The investigation also revealed that he traveled twice to Turkey through Kyrgyzstan in 2023–2024, attempting to reach Syria to engage in terrorist activities. After these unsuccessful attempts, he planned to travel to Afghanistan to join the international terrorist group Islamic Jihad Union. In November 2024, he was detained while attempting to cross into Iran en route to Afghanistan.
The court found him guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code:
Part 1, Article 155-2 (Training, departure, or movement with the intent to carry out terrorist activities),
Paragraph “a,” Part 2, Article 155-3 (Financing of terrorism),
Paragraph “g,” Part 3, Article 244-1 (Production, storage, distribution, or demonstration of materials posing a threat to public security and order),
Part 1, Article 244-2 (Creation of, leadership in, or participation in religious extremist or other banned organizations).
He was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
