Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Researchers at King’s College London, based on a study of data on symptoms that were observed among 1,600 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in the USA and the UK, identified 6 types of SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus. This was reported on the website of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the same time, according to scientists, if the first 3 types of coronavirus are considered relatively mild, then the last 3 become the cause of a severe course of the disease. So, at a time when only 16% of patients with type 1 COVID-19 needed hospitalization, almost 50% of patients with type 6 symptoms ended up in the hospital.
The researchers note that the first type is similar to the common flu and is usually accompanied by: a) headache and loss of smell; b) muscle pain, cough; c) sore throat and chest. Only 1.5% of patients with this type require artificial ventilation.
The second type includes symptoms such as: a) loss of appetite; b) headache and loss of smell; c) cough, sore throat; d) hoarseness and fever. Moreover, more than 4% of patients require artificial respiration support.
The third type manifests itself in the form of gastrointestinal problems. At the same time, patients do not have a cough, but they experience headaches. Also, symptoms such as: a) diarrhea, loss of smell and appetite are manifested; b) sore throat and chest. Slightly more than 3% requires breathing support.
The fourth type is the so-called. "Severe level 1", manifests itself in the form of: a) fatigue and headache; b) loss of smell, cough, fever; c) hoarseness and chest pain. The likelihood that they will need breathing support is 8.6%.
The fifth type, "severe level 2", can also include type 4 symptoms, along with loss of appetite, sore throat and muscle pain. This type is mainly characterized by indistinct symptoms and about 10% of patients require artificial respiration.
The sixth type, known as "severe level 3", is accompanied by all the symptoms of type 5, such as abdominal pain, shortness of breath and diarrhea. Given the severity of this type, almost 50% of patients with this type require hospitalization, and 20% require breathing support.
In general, according to experts, the competent distribution of patients according to the above types will allow doctors to use the results obtained in order to better predict which of the patients is at greater risk and who is more likely to need hospitalization in possible subsequent waves of a pandemic.
