Registration open for Samarkand Marathon 2024 Charity Run

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan announces the international charity run, Samarkand Marathon, to be held on 2 and 3 November in Samarkand.

The Samarkand Marathon, now in its sixth year, began as a half marathon in 2019 and expanded to a full marathon in 2022, adding a 42.2K distance. This year, the event offers a total of 6,000 slots.

On 2 November, there will be races for children aged 4 and up and a 2 km Nordic walking event.

On 3 November, races will include the marathon (42.2K), half marathon (21.1K), and races of 10K, 5K, and 2K. There will also be a 5K distance for people with hearing and visual impairments.

Both days of the Samarkand Marathon will feature plogging – free runs combined with litter collection. Participants aged 16 and up can join, and parents can participate with their children. At the end of the plogging runs, there will be a prize draw for participants, sponsored by partners.

The race routes pass through the historic part of Samarkand, with athletes running along central streets past historical landmarks. The start and finish lines are located near Registan Square.

Additionally, a large concert will take place on November 2, continuing the tradition of the event series.

In 2022, the Samarkand Marathon was included in the list of qualifying races for the Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship.

The marathon and half marathon courses in Samarkand are certified by the World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons (AIMS). The certification was conducted by an official marathon course measurer with a top-level "A" license, enabling certification for World Championships and Olympic Games courses.

The Samarkand Marathon series of charity runs aims to raise public awareness about the inclusiveness of cultural and art venues, promote a healthy lifestyle, and develop sports tourism in our country.
